Blisters

Blisters are a natural occurrence in the body. When the top layer of one's skin comes apart from the bottom layer, a fluid will typically collect between the tissues forming a water blister. This natural bubble of fluid protects skin from infection while it heals. When it comes to blister care, it is crucial that one never pop a blister. Should it happen to pop on its own, the skin should never be removed unless dirty. The area should stay covered with a clean bandage. Blisters often happen with repeated motions and can be found on the hands or feet or where equipment or clothing happens to rub on the skin.

There are other types of skin blisters. A blood blister is formed when the underlying skin tissue is damage with no puncture to the top layer of skin. This often happens in pinching accidents. Blood blisters form much in the way of water blisters; however the space instead fills with blood. Mouth blisters and sore tongue blisters are also common and can be the result of a herpes simplex virus, deficiencies in the diet or even a side effect of medication. Treatments for these types of blister include medicated oral remedies such as mouthwashes or even a change in diet. Blisters in female pubic hair can be the result of an STD or an ingrown hair but should always be checked by a doctor.

Tiny blisters alone or in groups can be the result of an allergy to anything from foods to medicines. It is not uncommon for those who come in contact with plants such as poison ivy to have such a reaction. It is also not uncommon for tiny blisters on hands to be the result of a fungal infection or mold allergy. When this type of skin reaction occurs without any real cause, it is always important to see a doctor or dermatologist. The skin will also blister in bad cases of sunburn. Sunburn blisters should never be popped or squeezed as this can lead to infection.

Since a blister is already the body's way of naturally helping the skin to heal, blister treatment tends to consist of protecting the blister as a whole until the wound heals on its own. Shoes that cause foot blisters should be switched to something that does not rub the skin in the same area. There are many products for the care of blisters on the hand or the foot. Blister care treatments often include the use of donut shaped bandages that protect and cushion blisters. Pus filled blisters on any part of the body are a sign on infection and should be examined by a doctor or dermatologist.
