Whiteheads

Whiteheads, like blackheads, are referred to as conedomes by dermatologists. Both blackheads and whiteheads are filled with sebum and dead skin cells. However, unlike black heads, the opening of a whitehead is very, very small. The pore blocking material in white heads is therefore not exposed to air like it would be with blackheads. Because of this, the pore blocking sebum in white heads cannot oxidize and will stay white. For those with oily skin, whiteheads tend to show up often, especially in the T-zone area of the face where oil production is at its greatest, such as the chin or nose.

Many who deal with this type of acne regularly want to know how to get rid of whiteheads for good. When one understands what causes whiteheads, it is easier to know how to get rid of them or at least reduce their appearance. The causes of whiteheads generally have to do with what is called excessive cellular exfoliation. This plugs pores with firm plugs of sebum that can be seen just under the skin. Along with regular exfoliation of the skin, it is helpful to use an astringent and an acne treatment preventing whiteheads. To remove a whitehead, one can use an instrument called a conedome remover. It will remove a whitehead without damaging the skin.

Treatments of whiteheads are often products that also are used in the treatment of blackheads. Not only can it effectively draw whiteheads to the surface and out of the skin, the retinoid commonly found in these products will also reduce the amount of whiteheads by slowing their growth. Those who suffer from whiteheads often suffer from blackheads also. Using this type of product can make it easy to treat whiteheads and acne such as blackheads in one convenient process. The regular and consistent use of these products has been found very effective by sufferers who fall into the category of excessive cellular exfoliation.

For those whose skin cannot take the harsh treatment of retinoids or exfoliation, there are home remedies for removing whiteheads and blackheads. Often, the ingredients to these remedies can be easily found throughout the kitchen. Oatmeal and banana is frequently used to treat whiteheads and acne. There are many other gentle options for skincare and whiteheads that will save skin from the burning or peeling of harsh chemicals, such as the use of egg whites or honey. When it comes to acne, whiteheads can be one of the most stubborn afflictions to deal with but it is important to keep skin safe and healthy in the meanwhile.
